Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania of Belgian parents, Michael Good is primarily self-taught as a jeweler and sculptor. He is known around the world as the “Father of Anticlastic Raising”. He has been a goldsmith and teacher since 1969, and has taught workshops for professional organizations, schools, and universities in North America and Europe. His work is represented in stores, galleries and private collections around the globe. His studio is located in a converted 100-year-old barn in Rockport, Maine, a traditional New England seacoast community. “My purpose is to follow the natural movement of a plane as it transforms into three-dimensional space by systematically stretching the edges and compressing the center of a metal sheet. The resulting anticlastic forms express a harmonious balance between tension and flexibility, complexity and simplicity, strength and economy. Because such characteristics are particularly suitable to jewelry, I adapt these shapes to accentuate the natural lines and movement of the human form.”
