A native of New England, Ellie Thompson was exposed to the arts at an early age studying music, theater, ballet and modern dance. At age 15, she was accepted into the Wesleyan University Center for Creative Youth, a summer arts-in-residence program. While her primary focus in the program was dance, the intensive curriculum stressed an interdisciplinary approach to the arts. This is where she learned to think conceptually, translating ideas into different media. This experience laid a strong foundation for Thompson's creative process. She is a modernist at heart, with a passion for mid-century modern design including furniture, pottery, art and architecture. She is drawn to the clean forms, dynamic use of color, and the enthusiastic energy of these designs.
